Lincoln Home in downtown has proved magnetic to visitors since it opened to the public after a beautiful restoration to recapture it former glory of 1860.The Greek revival house was home to Abraham and Mary Lincoln for 17 years after they bought the property for (only) $1200.00, two years into their marriage in 1842.
 
If you decide to explore the Capitol on foot, you can visit theElijah Iles House, the oldest house in Springfield. The house still contains the original siding, the interior wood work, the hardware, flooring and walls of the time. Preserved as a museum at present, the house hosts a stunning antique collection of Barringer Furniture and Accessories. The Elijah IIes House is definitely a must see Springfield’s landmark.
 
We recommend that you stop for drink or dinner at Sebastian Hideout, should you find yourself in that area. Sebastian’s is known for its exquisite cuisine for over two decades in the Capitol city and much has been said and written about its original twists on steaks, seafood and appetizers.
 
If you prefer to really dig for a historical backdrop for your trip, stop by Maldaner's Restaurant.

Established in 1884, Maldaner’s respects tradition while offering the best of contemporary American Dining in carefully preserved historical setting. Chef Higgins features seasonal dishes, based on heirloom vegetables, humanely raised meats and Slow Food, prepared and presented artistically.
